the description furnished by Jacquin when he published Euphorbia mesembrianthemifolia (Enum. P. Carib., 2. 1760 and Sel. Stirp. Amer., 150. 1763.) suggests this plant, but inclueds no character which is completely diagnostic. No authentic material of Jacquin's plant has been seen, and, in the Absence of this or further evidence as to ist identity, it seems best to maintain the Name Euphorbia buxifolia for the common plant of the Caribbean shor line represented on the sheet.
