Wishes for BLESSED and HAPPY HOLIDAYS
from Barb and Jacq' Tucker
2001 was the celebration of our
50th anniversary. The whole family visited our favorite Chinese
restaurant for a wonderful Chinese banquet.
Then, as their gift, the kids
came in August and moved the whole downstairs to the basement,
warehouse, etc. Then they took up the old carpet that had truly seen its
days. We had the floors sanded and coated. They turned out a truly
beautiful red oak. They are the original floors from the house that was
built in 1935. While the floors were being done, we escaped to the Amana
Colonies in Iowa for a week of shopping, eating German food and just
relaxing. The Amana Furniture Store is renowned for their quality. As
our gift to each other, we bought a beautiful maple glider rocker. Of
course Barb went bananas buying fabric at the quilt shop. Until the
floors cured we lived upstairs in our bedroom with coffee pot, the
teevee and Jacq's computer for another week. The kids came back,
unpacked everything, put it back in original place and, voila, we had a
new house.
Decided to replace our gas range
of over 20 years old and a new refrigerator, then our microwave died.
Now we have been told that our water line from the street must be
replaced. Houses can be bottomless money pits.
Our health has been so-so this
year. Barb had her eyes redone and now she can read the difference
between a 3 and an 8. Jacq's diabetes is basically under control with
diet and pills.
In February, Grandpa, Elise (16)
and Emma (14) had a ball in France,
they visited very old cousins staying at a B&B just behind the
maison where Jacq's mother was raised. They then "did" Paris:
Notre Dame, top of the Eiffel tower, d'Orsay, the Louvre and even rode
the ferris wheel. The girls ran the old guy ragged in the Metro.
RN Carol graduated from
University of Missouri last month with her BS in Nursing after many
years of studying. She may go on to a Masters.
Abraham is out in Colorado, this
summer he had a job in Alaska so is truly enjoying his youth.
Isaac is still very successful
with his photography career.
Emma is doing clarinet in the
High School Band. Over Thanksgiving, they marched in Orlando after a 24
hour bus trip.
Ben has been acting in school
plays and playing his horn.
Elise turned 17 this fall, she
is going to Johnson County Community College, driving all over in her
own red Thunderbird.
Adrienne and Olivia, turned 9,
are voracious readers and doing very well with home schooling.
Our family increased by one in
July. Bill's stepson, Eric and his wife Celina gave us a great grand
daughter, Hope Nicole Cooksey.
No traveling this year, we
refuse to fly anywhere because of all the stupid regulations that have
no relationship to the problem. Barb can't even take her needlework
scissors (might stab somebody). Jacq' feels naked without his Buck
knife.
Traded our fun low mileage red Mustang
for a sensible low mileage red 1997 Thunderbird, much more comfortable
for two old folks.
May the Lord bless you and keep
you,
