Candidate Kerry versus the Catholic Church
by Col. Bob Pappas, USMC, Ret.
It was as predictable as the rise and setting of the sun, that is, the storm
over the Vatican’s proscription against politicians taking communion, who
violate Catholic doctrine. As for Separation of Church and State, the US
Constitution covers the matter very clearly: first, is Article VI, which in
two parts states:
a. “The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the members of
the several state legislatures, and all executive and judicial officers,
both of the United States and of the several states, shall be bound by oath
or affirmation, to support this Constitution;”
b. “but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any
office or public trust under the United States.”
(As an aside, our “esteemed” elected officials regularly trample the first
part of Article VI, while the second part was affirmed when Jack Kennedy was
elected in 1960 as the first Roman Catholic to be President of the U.S.)
Second, is the 1st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which states:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or
prohibiting the free exercise thereof…”
It is notable that in neither case has the “state” acted to in any way
interfere in the inherent spiritual conflict between Candidate Kerry and his
religion, and his continued foray into political opportunism. It does
however and not surprisingly, illuminate the fact that he is an unmitigated
hypocrite.
This writer believes that Mr. Kerry will lose his bid for the Presidency,
primarily because he has no underlying values other than self-serving values
that he changes with the winds to satisfy the particular “market” to which
he happens to be pandering at the time. Kerry’s self-serving opportunism
began before Vietnam, but it matured in that setting. He wanted to show his
“patriotic” side when Democrat Johnson was President, by his active
involvement; but found that he could “make more ‘political’ money” after
Republican Nixon was elected by being the poster boy for the so called “anti
war” crowd. In fact he was not anti-war, he participated in it, and now he
has the temerity to claim a perverted sort of “patriotism.” If it were not
so disgusting and sickening it would be comical.
Kerry will not make it on his own, the only way he has a chance is to select
Rodham-Clinton as his VP running mate. But, his lust for power will be his
undoing because if they succeed, in so doing he would ultimately, likely
suffer the same fate as the other fifty plus Clinton associates including
Vincent Foster, who tried to walk away from them and are now “pushing up”
daisies.
For Rodham-Clinton it’s a no lose situation; so, predictably there are
increasing calls for her to be Kerry’s running mate. If they win, she will
be positioned for her own run four or eight years hence. If they lose, she
will have stood as a “good Democrat Party soldier” whose main objective was
to “unify the Party,” and will have used the opportunity to define herself
to the American public. If they succeed, which they won’t, her greatest
problem will be to restrain herself, until it is her turn and not upstage
the man, whose appearance is more befitting a midnight horror movie than
President of the United States. No surprise here.
As for the Catholic Church’s policy that deprives Communion from so called,
“Catholic” politicians who violate or support the violation of Church
teachings? Right on! This writer applauds Catholic Church leadership, which
after its abysmal leadership failure in the pedophile scandal now comes as a
breath of fresh air; some may call it hypocrisy, while the writer calls it,
getting their heads screwed on straight.
Kerry is no Catholic, as this writer understands the faith, he is a
political opportunist of the worst sort who is attempting to persuade
Catholics to vote for him while openly violating his faith and pandering to
the purveyors of evil that dominates the American religious-socio-political
landscape.
Is Kerry’s and other Catholic politicians’ a Separation of Church and State
issue? Nonsense! It’s about time that the so called, “Christian Church,”
including Catholics, stood up to evil that now pervades all levels of the
halls of government. In the “for what its worth department,” nowhere in the
Constitution, unless an activist court invents it in the future, is there
any proscription against Church influence over government.
Democrat Party led trends including homosexual “marriage,” in the name of
“Civil Rights” is to give credence to “Islamofacist” claims that the US is
“the great Satan.”
